Step Into the Studio & Landscape
We’re honored (and excited) to be part of Upstate Art Weekend, a five-day, region-wide event connecting artists, studios, and exhibition spaces across the Hudson Valley. Exhibition, open studio, and walking trails come together as a walkable experience where art, farming, and the natural world intersect, inviting you to encounter the work within the landscape that shapes it.
Farm & Field was founded by Jill Duffy as a place to reengage with the land, where art and landscape exist in active dialogue. Duffy’s studio and the exhibition space sit within the historic barn on a 210-acre, 225 year old working farm she stewards in the Punsit Valley in Chatham, NY.
Exhibition: Tracing Paths
Farm & Field presents Tracing Paths, an exhibition featuring works by Jill Duffy, curated by Katherine Zhang and presented in the hayloft gallery. This body of oil and cold wax paintings emerges directly from the land where it is made, inviting viewers to contemplate their relationship with the natural world. Walking is central to Duffy’s process: paths are returned to and traced in walnut ink and wild vine charcoal made from materials harvested on the same walks that inspire the work. Earth and botanicals are foraged on site, then processed and transformed into inks and paints using traditional pigment-making practices. Each painting is grounded in the farm’s seasonal rhythms, where color holds memory, movement, and traces of history.
Also on view are neo-expressionist works by artist-in-residence Reinhardt, offering a parallel exploration of movement and mark-making in dynamic conversation with Duffy’s work.
The exhibition is installed in the hayloft of Farm & Field’s 200-year-old dairy barn in Chatham.
